I am a veterinarian graduated from São Paulo State University (UNESP), Botucatu city, Brazil. I obtained masters, PhD and Post doctorate from University of São Paulo (USP), Sao Paulo city, Brazil. Part of the doctorate I did abroad: at Instituto de Salud Carlos III- Leishmaniasis and Chagas disease laboratory, Majadahonda, city, Spain, and at University of Florida - Department of Mathematics, Gainesville city, USA.

As an epidemiologist I have emphasized my studies on zoonotic diseases such as visceral leishmaniasis, toxoplasmosis, cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis, focusing on geographic distribution analysis, mathematical modeling applied to evaluation of prevention and control strategies, experimental and natural infection, serological and molecular diagnostics and phenotyping. I have extensive experience in field work and that includes collection of samples (specially blood, lymph node cells) of domestic and wild mammals for laboratory diagnostics.
